What is Hacktoberfest?

It’s an annual month-long event in October organized by DigitalOcean for the eighth year in a row, encouraging developers of any seniority to participate in open source projects.

DigitalOcean encourages community participation so people contribute through pull requests, join events, and donate to open source projects.

What is Open Source?

It’s all source code made available to the public for possible modification and redistribution. Open source projects hosted in public repositories benefit from contributions by the developer community in general and are usually managed through GitHub.

If you want to learn more in detail, you can watch this video from the event we did with CoDeAr, where we talked about Hacktoberfest 2020 and some open source projects.

How to participate?

🔹 Sign up at Hacktoberfest Pagina de Inscripcion

You can track your PR progress from your profile

🔹 Make at least four pull requests (PRs) before October 31 in any participating repository/project hosted on GitHub.

You can see how to make your first PR in this post 😄

🔹 Your PRs count toward your participation in the event if they’re in a repository with the #hacktoberfest hashtag and once they’ve been merged, approved by a maintainer, or labeled as accepted.

The goal is to contribute responsibly and avoid shit pull-requests.

Once all PRs are approved, you can choose between two prizes: a limited-edition T-shirt or having a tree planted in your name.
